SDOC was founded in 1999 by Dr. Sami Samawi and Dr. Shadi S. Samawi , with a vision in mind.

That vision is to empower people’s lives and self-image through better smiles and better dental health, by providing the highest standard of excellence in professional orthodontic care to our patients.

Dr. Sami Samawi

BDS, MMedSci(Orth)

Dr Sami Samawi   BDS, MMedSci(Orth)  is a (now-retired) Consultant Orthodontist and a retired Brigadier-General of the Royal Medical Services in the Jordanian Armed Forces. He is the Founder of Samawi Dental & Orthodontic Center in 1999, along with Dr. Shadi S. Samawi.

He obtained his BDS in Dentistry from the University of Cairo in 1969. Later that year, he joined the Royal Medical Services of the Jordanian Armed Forces. He left to the UK in 1978 to complete his Master’s degree in Clinical Orthodontics (MMedSci in Orthodontics) from the University of Sheffield in 1980, then returned to the Royal medical Services.

As a Consultant Orthodontist he was the former Head of the Orthodontic Department at The Farah Rehabilitation Center in King Hussein Medical City in the late 80s’, as well as a former part-time lecturer at the University of Jordan Dental Faculty since its establishment in 1989 up untill 1995. He is currently a member of several local, regional and international orthodontic bodies, including the Jordanian Orthodontic Society (JOS), the British Orthodontic Society (BOS), the European Orthodontic Society (EOS), as well as a Fellow of the World Federation of Orthodontists (WFO). He has also been Secretary-General of the Arab Orthodontic Society (AOS) for over 8 years and an active member of several dental committees of the Jordanian Dental Association. He has also served as the Head of Examiners Panel of the Jordanian Orthodontic Board Examination Committee up until 2013.

He has published in a number of local and international dental journals such as the Jordanian Dental Association Journal, the Royal Medical Services Dental Journal, and the British Journal of Orthodontics. He has lectured numerous times at local and regional orthodontic congresses, and has helped organize many local and arab orthodontic congresses throughout the years, as part of the Jordanian Dental Association and Jordanian Orthodontic Society’s various committees. Dr. Sami Samawi has fully retired from practicing Orthodontics in 2016, however, over the 40+ years of his career, and as one of the first few orthodontic specialists in the kingdom and a founding member of the Jordanian Orthodontic Society (JOS) in the 1980s, he has contributed in various scientific, training and administrative capacities to the advancement of the Orthodontic specialty in Jordan.


Dr. Shadi Samawi

BDS, MMedSci(Orth), MOrthRCSED

Dr. Shadi Samawi   BDS, MMedSci(Orth), MOrthRCSED is a Specialist Orthodontist, Co-Founder and General Manager of Samawi Dental & Orthodontic Center, the leading Specialty Dental Center in West Amman, Jordan, and a Consultant Orthodontist in Manama, Bahrain. He received his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from the University of Jordan in Amman in 1999.

Following a one-year Residency at the Royal Medical Services in Jordan and two years in private practice, he left to the UK & obtained his Master’s degree in Clinical Orthodontics (MMedSci) from the University of Sheffield in 2003. He later worked as an Honorary Clinical Fellow in Orthodontics at the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital in Sheffield until obtaining the Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MOrthRCSED) in 2004.

He is a Fellow of a number of orthodontic societies such as The Jordanian Orthodontic Society (JOS), Arab Orthodontic Society (AOS) & The World Federation of Orthodontists (WFO), as well as being on the Board of the British Universities Alumni Association (BUAA) from 2008-2014. He has been on the organizing committees of several dental & orthodontic conferences since 2005, & was in charge of the Jordanian Orthodontic Society’s Internet & Multimedia Committee between 2007-2013, creating its first official website, as well as being Head of Jordan Dental Association’s Conferences Bureau Secretariat (2009-2011) and a member of the Scientific Committee of the Jordan Dental Association.

He has also been Head of the Permanent Bureau of Computer & Internet at the Jordan Dental Association between 2013-2015 & on the Editorial Board of the Jordan Dental Journal (JDJ) as Orthodontic Section Editor and a Former Associate Editor for the “Advances in Dentistry and Oral Health (ADOH)” journal.

Over the past 20 years, his major orthodontic interests have included topics such as the management of post-orthodontic demineralisation, Digital Technology related to Orthodontics – including Digital Photography, Radiography, & Practice Management Software, & has been a long-time practitioner of the MBT Treatment Philosophy & Self-ligating systems; most notably the Damon System.

In 2011, he received the 2nd Place Award for the Aesthetic Dentistry MENA (Middle East & North Africa) Awards in the Multi-disciplinary Treatment Category for joint treatment done in association with colleague & Restorative Specialist Dr. Maher Abdeljawad.

He has previously self-published two editions of the popular eBook A Short Guide to Clinical Digital Photography in Orthodontics in 2008 and 2011, Straight-Wire Orthodontics: A Short Guide to Principles and Technique , as well as the newly-published From Good to Great: The 4 Keys to Mastery of Orthodontic Finishing. He also has a very special interest in Photography – as a serious hobby – as well as Web & Graphic Design, Hiking and more recently; Blogging. He regularly lectures in multiple venues and online webinars, and is currently presenting his comprehensive Hands-On Course on Clinical Dental Photography both in Jordan & abroad. He also runs his increasingly-popular orthodontic blog; The Orthodontic Notefile.
